Design Considerations

Helix’s efforts address many aspects of product development with regard to the physical enclosure or mechanical requirements.

Design for Assembly
Helix designers address ease of assembly, minimum parts and assembly steps and design to prevent incorrect assembly. Working with the anticipated production forecast in mind, we provide practical solutions for product assembly.

Design for Manufacturing
At Helix, real success happens when a design is successfully manufactured. We proactively design for chosen production processes and optimize designs for processes and anticipated unit volumes.

Adverse Use Conditions
Some products are subject to adverse environments and may require ingress protection from water and debris. Products also have to withstand abuse in the field. We are experts at having to design for these conditions and utilize internal preliminary test capabilities throughout development to confirm potential solutions.

Market-Appropriate Aesthetics
Applying the optimal industrial design to a product requires an understanding of markets, competitors, and desired user experience. We empower creativity with electronic sketching tablets for ideation and develop “inspiration boards” and other methods to address the ideal user experience for success in the marketplace.

Product Branding
Product design is a powerful tool to enhance a company’s image and recognition factor in the marketplace. At Helix, we design to reinforce the current brand and raise it when necessary to a new level to stay one step ahead in consumer recognition. Design features that link one product to others within a company create a unified appearance that strengthens the overall brand.

Product Configuration
The arrangement of product internals goes hand-in-hand with industrial design and engineering development. By exploring the arrangement of components and hardware differently, we define the optimum form factor to meet the market and user requirements.

User Experience
Ultimately, a positive user experience defines success. We use mock-ups, realistic computer generated renderings, appearance prototypes and other methods to test for the ultimate user experience.
